Programs
Sierra Club members and the public are invited
to our first Saturday of the month Breakfast
Programs. We meet at 10:00 a.m. at Camino Real
Restaurant, 3500 Truxtun Ave, just west of Oak
St. @ Westwind Dr. in Bakersfield. The programs
are free; breakfast is available for only $7.50
(tax & tip included). An RSVP will help us plan

Jan. 3, 2009 - "Everything's Cool," a
2007 comedic film about America finally
"getting" global warming.
Feb. 7, 2009 - "What We Know about
Climate Change" talk by Uduak Ntuk, a presenter
with the non-profit The Alliance for Climate
Protection. Uduak, a chemical engineer, was
personally trained by former Vice President and
Nobel Laureate, Al Gore, to share the science
behind global warming with members of the
American public.
Mar. 7, 2009 - County of Kern Parks and
Recreation Director, Bob Lerude - "The Future of
Kern County Parks." A Master Plan for County
parks is in the planning stage and input is
sought from youth and adults via an online
survey at the Kern Co. website.
April 4, 2009 - Dr. Ted Murphy - "Kit Fox
Tales: Thirty years with Bakersfield's favorite
endangered species." Dr. Murphy is Emeritus
Professor of Biology and Founding Director,
Facility for Animal Care and Treatment (FACT) at
California State University, Bakersfield.
April 22, 2009: 5-7 p.m. - Wine & Cheese
Social at SURFACE Art Gallery welcomes new and
transfer-in members, 1703 - 20th Street,
Bakersfield. Info - 203-2770.
May 2, 2009 - "Wind Wolves, a Wildlands
Conservancy Preserve" presentation by staff
ecologist, Dave Clendenen. Wind Wolves, at the
foot of the Grapevine, is the largest nonprofit
preserve on the West Coast with 97,000 scenic
and ecologically diverse acres open for hiking,
picnicking and (by permit) camping.
June 6, 2009: 10 a.m. - Tour of FACT at
CSUB & Ice Cream Social - Capping a year of
educational programs is a fun site visit and ice
cream treat. The Facility for Animal Care and
Treatment was founded by Dr. Ted Murphy as a
wildlife rescue, conservation and education
project for California State University,
Bakersfield. Tour also includes the Desert
Tortoise Habitat and Stephen Cooley will
introduce us to the garden maintained by the
Cactus & Succulent Society. Map:

Battery Recycling at BVG Meetings – We're
not supposed to toss batteries in the garbage
can anymore. So bring us your old batteries,
lithium ion, nickel metal hydride, NiCad,
small sealed lead-acid batteries and from
cordless & cell phones, power tools, laptops
-- even AAA’s to D’s.
